Activity Post 5 (Sociology)

This is my last Sociology Activity Post, it has been exactly three months, such a bittersweet moment. This week my assignment is to locate a social media post that demonstrates someone pushing for a social change. The post can be from TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, or etc. the post can be obvious, such as in a Social Movement, or more subtle through a simple post addressing a social issue of their concern. Once I have located the post, I must answer the following questions.

What is taking place in this post? What social issue is the individual(s) fighting for? How do we know this? Explain.

In this post, people have come together to march for their lives, but most importantly, the lives of children. The individuals are fighting against gun violence. They want more gun control laws. We know this because it is a #MarchForOurLives.

How does the individual(s)’ opinion on the issue compare to the general public in the United States? Around the World?

This comes down to politics in the end. In the United States, people want their guns, even with children paying the ultimate price. Around the world, there are many places where guns are prohibited. This makes a difference in everyone's lives. America is quite different when it comes to gun laws, hopefully, a change can occur.

What are your thoughts on this social issue? Do you agree or disagree with the post? Explain.

I agree with what the post is fighting for. There have been too many incidents with guns, and all because the laws allow these things to happen. The laws around guns are so broad, they aren't protecting people in the way should. People guns for self-defense but then leave them around their children, or misuse them. The post says "nothing has changed," and they are correct, school shootings, public shootings in general. They still happen every day, but why? This social movement wants to protect people, and I stand with them.
