This week my assignment is to find the way our agents of socialization impact our way of thinking, particularly on marriage and the family. I have to find and post a link to either a movie, video, TikTok, or etc. that addresses marriage and/or the family today. Then I have to make a write-up on my original reaction which addresses the following questions.
How is marriage and/or the family portrayed in the video?
Marriage is portrayed as a young love story. It starts by saying, "Reasons why I wouldn't recommend getting married young." In this video, it is clear that they got married at a young age, and that is very common these days. Some people are not supportive of getting married young, so that's an impact society has.
Does this reflect a true marriage or family structure?
This does reflect a true marriage but only in some perspectives. A couple will not always be happy, and this portrays them being extremely happy. So it does reflect what a positive side of true marriage can look like.
Is it similar to your own relationships? Why or why not?
This is similar to my parent's story. They also got married at a very young age. After so many years, neither of them regrets it! The couple in the video though is still in the honeymoon phase as they don't have kids yet and they haven't been together for over fifteen years.
What could the long-term effects be for the video representing marriage and/or family this way?
The long-term effects will depend entirely on them. Some people see videos like that, they get envious and envy can make people do crazy things. Hopefully, the young couple can continue to post happy videos and live a happy life moving forward. I think this video is just one of many, and I see more videos like this coming in the future.
